Hasso no Kanamono are ornate support plates used to disperse the flexing of the yoroi armor plating where byo (rivets) or “kan” (rings) are used. Typically made from soft brass or copper, they are are generally rectangular in shape but are made in different shapes and designs. These ornate plates are used to support and protect the under lying ito-mona (armor plate) below, in which the byo is used to connect 2 sections of plating together. Due to the flexing of the armor plating below, the head of the byo, or ” hasso-no-byo” would scratch the urushi and eventually break. So the hasso-no-kanamono would act as an decorative washer, absorbing the flexing of the plates below and reducing the stress on the byo.
Hasso-no-kanamono can typically be added to your yoroi (armor) by sliding the support legs of the included byo (rivets) through the existing holes of the odoshi (lace). If no holes are in your yoroi, you will need to drill them yourself to add the plating. The hasso no kanamono will include the required amount of byo (rivets) needed to attach the plate to your armor. Agemaki no kan (decorative back plate with ring) or the agemaki (decorative bow) are not included.
