Description
This Yokohagi Suso no ita Gashira Samurai Armor is crafted by our senior katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith), at the Iron Mountain Armory. It uses one of the most iconic armor designs called “Tosei Yokohagi Okegawa Ni-Mai Do,” which loosely translates to a “Modern” Two Section Cuirass with Horizontal Plating Joined by a Pin Hinge. It can add the buji-taki (rivets) as an option. Yokohagi Suso no ita is a general term for the lowermost lame on an item or armor, such as the shikoro, sode or tare.
The Okegawa Ni-Mai Do became one of the most common armor designs used during the last 100 years of the Sengoku Era. This Do is crafted from overlapping individual lames (metal strips) that are smoothed over, then painted and laced with your choice of color. The kabuto (helmet), menpo (mask) and suneate (shin guards) armor style can be changed or customized upon your request.

Overall good quality product. I ordered one size too tall, so while not 100% to my size it still fits well enough to wear once in a while. A couple mail rings came off for no reason on one sleeve. One rivet on the kabuto and another on the do are slightly loose. Cloth underneath left-side sode started coming off, but I was able to sew it back on without much difficulty. If you don’t mind these minor defects (these are handmade after all) it’s worth the price.
Impressive quality. Crafting was faster than I expected and customer service was genuinely awesome.
The armor fits well and the quality is impressive, this looks and feels like it would belong in a museum, and reminded me of the illustrations in Absolon’s book. I haven’t found any issue in the gusoku, the cloth is strong and the armor is comfortable.
This is the kind of quality you would only see in Japan.
Outstanding quality and attention to every detail. Honestly, I was a little doubtful with all the great reviews, but after the fast email responses, telephone conversation and great customer service, I felt confident to place my order. They kept me informed of the progress, even sending pictures and less then 2 months later (sooner then expected) I had my very own custom samurai armor set. My childhood dream has come true! Thank you!!
