Happuri (open face armored mask), is the term for a style of facial armor worn by the early samurai warrior class and their retainersHappuri were crafted from leather or iron in an upside down U shape.  This mengu (face armor mask) protects the forehead and cheeks from attacks and the shinobi-no o (kabuto cord), without hindering the warriors vision or breathing. It was a common mengu (facial armor) for all warriors of the time from Heian to the mid part of the Muromachi Period (794 – 1450 AD), then made popular again in the Edo era.  This Happuri is a traditional design, copied from an original Heian Era facial armor, and looks great worn in the field or displayed one of our menpo stands.

Iron Mountain Armory crafts their samurai armor from traditional designs in order to reproduce the most historical accurate traditional armor for the modern warrior. This happuri mengu makes a perfect addition to any SCA, LARP, Cosplay or collection needs.
