Goshozan Tosei Samurai Armor was a common samurai armor set in the early 16th century.  The “tosei” style yoroi was an advancement over the more classic armor designs. It was a needed evolutionary step due to the evolving military strategy and the introduction of firearms on the battlefield.  The Goshozan style kabuto, refers to the high back of the helmet top section and translates to “rear victory mountain“.  This particular gusoku (matching samurai armor set) features heavy kusari (butted iron chain mail) kote, haidate and suneate for maximum comfort, matching your natural form.

This Gashira class Tosei Yoroi features a horizontal plated okegawa, tub sided”, ni-mai (2-section) chest design, joined together with a hinge, making it a “clam shell” style of armor.  This style of Do has horizontal, overlapping plates which are riveted together (or countersunk for a smoother finish). This creates a strong, shock absorbing, layered Do which is more economical, comfortable, less maintenance and more reliable in battle than any of the previous designs.  This is why the Okegawa yoroi had become the most common style of armor used by all levels of samurai and their ashigaru (foot soldiers) during the 16 century.

We offer a variety of options to change the style of the helmet (kabuto), mask (menpo) and shins (suneate).  We offer the ability to customize it however you like, including paints, laces, material and leather in multiple colors and styles. The full name for this particular traditional do is: “Tosei Yokohagi Okegawa Ni-Mai-Do”.
