History:
The hachigane (hachimaki) was a small piece of flexible or portable armor designed to protect the forehead. Used by both samurai and possibly shinobi (ninja), its main purpose was to shield the warrior from cuts to the forehead. Samurai would often wear this armor in combat, dueling, traveling, or during semi-formal occasions. Over time, the hachigane became a symbol of status as well as a piece of light armor protection, especially during duels.
