Kegutsu (tsuranuki – yoroi boots) also commonly known as “samurai shoes”, were popular among the high-ranking samurai class and where often worn during ceremonies and of course during the winter to keep their feet warm. The kegutsu samurai shoes where the height of fashion and quite expensive.  Typically made from bear or deer fur or horse or yak hair, as well as kawa (leather or hide) and asa (hemp / cotton linen). These samurai shoes or samurai boots were quite durable and would provide great insulation from the cold. Our Kegutsu are made with from 4 layers of durable asa (hemp) paper and leather, making a firm form that will begin to wear to your foot with use. We offer the option to cover your samurai shoes with either natural horse tail or yak hair. They can be embellished with any of our hemp linen, leather or art silk brocades to better match your samurai armor or samurai clothing set. They can be worn outside, however are best suited for ceremonial and light use.

Iron Mountain Armory hand makes our kegutsu from a traditional design, making these samurai shoes perfect for re-enactors, cosplay or any one wanting to add some traditional Japanese shoes to their dress style. A very unique gift item.  They also look fantastic when display with a samurai armor set. In times past crafters to replace the hemp and leather soles where plentiful, but now not so much. So we recommend using your traditional kegutsu for light, casual use. If you have any questions or concerns about this or any of our samurai armor, clothing or accessories, please contact us via online form or clicking the “Customer Support” button at the top of the page for our email and telephone number. Ordering Tips: Because of different foot sizes and shapes, this style of shoe can be difficult to wear. It can be “molded” to help fit your foot shape. Some modification might be needed, by the wearer, such as rubbing warm water inside the shoe, to moisten, with your finger, and then pressing the shoe into form. It is recommended that you order them several centimeters larger (see sizing instructions) to help ensure the best fit. It is always easier to fill the extra space with a sock then having a tight fitting shoe. As everyone has their own preference of how a shoe should fit, we can not guarantee a perfect fit for everyone.
