Leather Yugake (Yukake – samurai gloves), are handmade with white or brown genuine deer leather with optional egawa (printed designs) or hog hide.  They are the perfect accessory for comfort and added protection for sword use. Designed after original yukake (leather gloves) used by samurai in the Sengoku and Edo Eras.

Iron Mountain Armory yugake gloves are crafted from quality deer leather or hog hide with several options of egawa design. Traditionally the white leather would be smoked to give it a yellow tint or fusube gawa (brown color), and then the designs would be hand embossed onto the leather.  We use tanned leather and print the designs directly onto the leather using a high quality artisan process with modern techniques.  These techniques help us keep our leather yugake affordable compared to more traditional egawa yugake. Deerskin is also ultra-soft, supple, and comfortable with a spongy feel. It is lightweight, yet highly durable. Deerskin is one of the only leathers that can get wet and still dry soft.  Hog hide is a dense leather, with a moderately supple feel and very good durability. Hog or pigskin is known for its resilience, holding up well against abrasion. Slightly thinner than cowhide, pigskin stays pliable with wear and does not stiffen after getting wet.

Ordering Tips: Leather does not stretch. We recommend ordering 1 size larger of these leather Yugake to ensure the best fit.  Because hand sizes and shapes differ we can not guarantee the perfect fit.

Our leather Yugake are handmade by Iron Mountain Armory at the time of your order. Please allow at least 2 – 3 weeks for crafting of this item. There might be delays if leather color / egawa design isn’t available. We will do our best to keep you informed. If DEER hide is not an available option from the drop down menu, it is because it is currently out of stock for the foreseeable future.
