    Extra Customization Options

    Gashira (Officer):
Expertly handmade with quality materials and good attention to detail.

Crafting Time: 25 to 35 Days.

Materials Used: Bowl style kabuto, steel construction, traditional brocade, hemp, quality cotton, brass, copper fittings with genuine leather & and some synthetic materials might be used. (materials may differ depending on model)

Our “Gashira Class” yoroi are the next step up from our “Kachi Class.” Each suit is handcrafted by our experienced katchû-shi (armor smith) at the Iron Mountain Armory. Our craftsman will use quality materials and traditional crafting methods with some modern techniques, tools and advancements in design. Much like the Taisho Class, each suit has been heavily researched, and a lot of care is put into their historical accuracy. The principle difference between the Gashira-class and Taisho-class, is that the Gashira Class is crafted with the practical bowl-style kabuto (simulated laminate) and some other machine stamped parts. Gashira class also feature some small modern design enhancements (like adding grommets and spot welding) to make the armor more robust and easier to main. Our Gashira Class samurai armor is made specifically for collectors, exhibitions, re-enactors and martial artists, who want an authentic “Gendai” samurai suit of armor without the added expenses of the more traditional design and hand crafting methods found in our Taisho class.

The Gashira class features a more traditional Gendai design over kachi class and include features such as, real animal hair, genuine leather, removable or interchangeable nose, brass fittings, shoulder padding with kikko (armor plating), traditional butted mail, opposable thumbs, leg / waist support on haidate, extra materials, fittings, riveting, grommets, extra lacing options and included armor storage / display box (yoroi bitsu) with stand. The attention to detail is a big step up from Kachi class, however, due to handcrafting of many parts there might be some blemishes that pass through our QC process. Although we work to avoid and fix blemishes / issues, through the QC process, they are a natural occurrence of handcrafting. Taisho class suits will have fewer (if any) of these blemishes that occur due to high standards and level of detail when crafting and review.

Description

Momoyama Ni-Mai Gashira Samurai Armor is crafted in honor of the robust tosei yoroi  (post 1540 modern samurai armor) developed during the Azuchi–Momoyama period (1568 ~ 1600). The Azuchi–Momoyama period marked the final phase of the Sengoku era (warring states) in Japan’s long, bloody history or war.  Oda Nobunaga known as “魔王” (The Demon Lord) and the Great Unifier of Japan, changed the way war was fought with his tanegashima gunners and spear foot samurai, who displaced the mounted samurai with ease. These new samurai troops trained in mass group movements, instead of hand-to-hand fighting tactics.  Their distinctive armor colors of Red or Black helped fostered “esprit de corps” (moral). With these new tactics Oda Nobunaga effectively became ruler of 20 provinces, unifying almost all of Japan under one Shogun.

Iron Mountain Armory has crafted and presents this particular gusoku (matching armor set) with the Demon Lord’s trademark black yoroi with blue odoshi (lace) and with the pre-selected optional mayu (simulated eyebrows), miage shiwa (simulated facial wrinkles). The Oda suemon (mon on the fukigaeshi) and fukurin (metal trim) compliments the 18 ken (simulated) Hachi Goshozan kabuto. The details of the ni-mai do (2 section cuirass), nami chu-sode with kibiki-odoshi are also complimented with the optional fukurin trim, topped with the Oda mon tekko no suemon (mon on the back of hand). This momoyama ni-mai gashira samurai armor set is filled with many options showing how stunning a yoroi can look when fully embellished.

Keeping with tradition, skilled katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) at Iron Mountain Armory provide you with all the options of a Samurai when ordering their yoroi.  You can select from other styles of kabuto and chose to remove some pre-selected options, like the mayu and/or miage shiwa (simulated facial wrinkles).

Please Note: All options are pre-selected to create the suit as seen in the product pictures with many of the options changeable. If you have any questions about the options click/tap the ? next to the option title for more information or see our Order Options Explained page for more details.
