    Gashira (Officer):
Expertly handmade with quality materials and good attention to detail.

Crafting Time: 25 to 35 Days.

Materials Used: Bowl style kabuto, steel construction, traditional brocade, hemp, quality cotton, brass, copper fittings with genuine leather & and some synthetic materials might be used. (materials may differ depending on model)

Our “Gashira Class” yoroi are the next step up from our “Kachi Class.” Each suit is handcrafted by our experienced katchû-shi (armor smith) at the Iron Mountain Armory. Our craftsman will use quality materials and traditional crafting methods with some modern techniques, tools and advancements in design. Much like the Taisho Class, each suit has been heavily researched, and a lot of care is put into their historical accuracy. The principle difference between the Gashira-class and Taisho-class, is that the Gashira Class is crafted with the practical bowl-style kabuto (simulated laminate) and some other machine stamped parts. Gashira class also feature some small modern design enhancements (like adding grommets and spot welding) to make the armor more robust and easier to main. Our Gashira Class samurai armor is made specifically for collectors, exhibitions, re-enactors and martial artists, who want an authentic “Gendai” samurai suit of armor without the added expenses of the more traditional design and hand crafting methods found in our Taisho class.

The Gashira class features a more traditional Gendai design over kachi class and include features such as, real animal hair, genuine leather, removable or interchangeable nose, brass fittings, shoulder padding with kikko (armor plating), traditional butted mail, opposable thumbs, leg / waist support on haidate, extra materials, fittings, riveting, grommets, extra lacing options and included armor storage / display box (yoroi bitsu) with stand. The attention to detail is a big step up from Kachi class, however, due to handcrafting of many parts there might be some blemishes that pass through our QC process. Although we work to avoid and fix blemishes / issues, through the QC process, they are a natural occurrence of handcrafting. Taisho class suits will have fewer (if any) of these blemishes that occur due to high standards and level of detail when crafting and review.

Description

This beautiful Odoshi Gashira Samurai Gusoku (laced suit of armor) was worn in combat by the high-ranking samurai during the late Muromachi – Sengoku Period. Our Gashira class model is crafted with a Tosei Okegawa Ni-mai Do (hinged 2 piece breastplate) and is made from 14 individual steel armored plates that are hand laced together with high quality odoshi (cotton lace). Like the Kachi and Taisho versions, total assembly takes over 50 hours.  The O-Sode (Shield like shoulder armor), features a colorful kebiki-odoshi style lacing (also referred to as “full lacing”) which our crafters are happy to custom color for you, in varying patterns or shapes.  This colored lacing gives the armor a beautiful vibrant appearance, much like the classic samurai in the legends.

These genuine leather overlays are painted with traditional Japanese patterns or they can be printed to your custom design (please ask us for details).  The armor plates feature a decorative metal trim called “fukurin”.   Even the mon (clan symbol) of the maedate (helmet crest) can be customized upon your request.   As with all of our Gashira series samurai armor, the Muromachi Hishi-Toji is handmade with more traditional materials and crafted by our more skilled katchû-shi  (Japanese armor smith) here at Iron Mountain Armory. We offer many different customization options that our armor smiths are happy to do for you.

Please Note:  We will email you to confirm your lace color combination to make certain we craft your samurai armor as you envision.

Features: Gashira Class crafting.

  • Full sized and fully functional.
  • Variation of paint, high quality cotton odoshi colors and traditional features.

2 reviews for Muromachi Hishi-Toji Samurai Gusoku

1-2 of 2 reviews
  1. I spent several weeks researching about samurai armor as well as reviewing some antiques and new armor made in Japan. Even after reading some of the reviews online and seeing the pictures, I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing a Japanese suit of armor that was made in China. However because I couldn’t afford to spend more than $6K on a Japanese made suit I decided to take the chance.
I received my armor last week and was very impressed with the overall quality. A few minor things here and there under very close examination but nothing at all that was remotely an issue. I don’t have a great knowledge of samurai armor, but from the detailed pictures and illustrations in the Japanese printed books and my research the armor more authentically made than I expected.
Overall I am very impressed and glad that I couldn’t afford the Japanese made suit. Although I would had liked to have a “Made in Japan” suit, but knowing what I know now, I can’t help but think I would of felt cheated.

  2. I have researched samurai armor but I would not call myself an expert. However keeping with modern standards of quality control and details of historical suits, this suit would be what a Daimyo in the 16th century would had expected to had received from his armor smith.
