Sashimono-Dake no Koto
(Bamboo Banner Pole)

Original price was: $39.99.Current price is: $28.99. $28.99

Sashimono-Dake no Koto (bamboo banner pole) are traditional banner pole sets used by samurai to display their sashimono (war banner) while in battle or on parade.  The bamboo pole set is crafted from 4 sections of bamboo fitted with metal couplers and a traditional swivel adapter used on Sashimono-Dake no Koto from the late Sengoku and Edo era. This design was used so the pole could be easily disassembled and carried comfortably or packed into the yoroi bitsu (armor box) when not needed. It is also important that the bamboo banner could break apart or be easily pulled out of  the Ukezutsu (Banner Base) if grabbed by an enemy while in combat. It will also work with our hatadai (Banner Stand).

Iron Mountain Armory has crafted this Sashimono-Dake no Koto after several original models which dated back to the late 16th century. Each bamboo is carefully selected, sized, cut, treated and then matched with traditional metal fittings. Due to its segmented design with couplers, the bamboo pole may exhibit slight sagging under the weight of a banner. To prevent this the edges were typically painted with urushi (Japanese lacquer) or wrapped with lacquered paper to help support the edges and keep the coupler tubing secure. IMA uses cloth tape to serve this same purpose as it is easier to maintain and repair if needed. Each banner pole is sized to work with one of our standard Sashimono (Samurai War Banner). You can cut the bamboo to fit a smaller war banner as needed, however if you need longer lengths, please request the lengths in your order comments and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
