Description

Traditional Hakama Shita, is a Gi top type of short kimono which is worn with a hakama.  It is also sometimes worn by Martial Artists for training, or worn as a stylish “light jacket” by both men and women. Iron Mountain Armory offers 2 styles of  traditional hakama shita.

Style 1 is a very simple short kimono commonly worn with a Kamishimo Hitatare, or hakama with juban underneath. This style of short kimono was more for informal, casual use. It could be worn by both Samurai and peasants alike.

Style 2 is a more formal style of short kimono commonly worn with the traditional or yoroi hitatare. It features slits under the armpit for venting and the ability to wear this kimono in 2 different ways. It can be worn open at the front or wrapped around the body (when in combat or worn under armor). They have ties on the front which can be simply tied and hung at the front on formal occasions or tied around the back, often when wearing armor, to help keep the hakamashita closed snuggly around the warrior’s torso.

Era Style will offer you the material option most common to the earlier Sengoku era or later Edo era. It will not change any other detail other then the material options you have in the custom options.

For either style, we offer the option wide or narrow sleeves and lace ties to be added for wide sleeve short kimono top. The lace ties the wrists closed at the wrist or above the elbow to keep the wide sleeves from interfering with some activities.  Wide sleeve with the lace are common with the kukui (tied) hakama. The narrow sleeves are typically a little more comfortable when wearing kote (armored sleeves), however the wider sleeves can be wrapped around your arms to help add extra padding / protection, under the kote.

This hakama shirt compliments our traditional Samurai Hakama. A Juban Shitagi is traditionally worn as an undershirt with the length dropping to knee level. You can custom request custom sizing for your Hakama Shita.  Our samurai clothing and accessories are featured in many movies, tv series, documentaries, including the docudrama “Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan” by Netflix & the Smithsonian Channel.

  5. The final result and textile was excellent… my advice here is to be a descriptive comparison of the size between America Europe China and Japan (lets say the XL in Europe is XXL in Japan) something like that. Exceptionally superior product with a reasonable price.
