Description

Yoroi Haori is a long flowing kimono style jacket which is worn over Samurai yoroi (armor). The yoroi haori or “samurai armor jacket” can be made from a light cotton or wool to help keep extra warm. The samurai armor jacket is worn waist to knee length and can be worn opened or kept closed by a odoshi lace tied at the waist. During the Sengoku era (warring state) resources were more basic, as more money was spent on military campaigns, so the samurai armor jacket was typically made from a basic asa (hemp or cotton linen).  Into the Edo era (peaceful state) samurai had more money to spend on finer material, especially on imported materials, so the Samurai armor jacket would have been made from a more fine cotton or wool material. During both Sengoku and Edo era samurai would wear this armor kimono jacket during military campaigns or informal occasions. For more formal use samurai would wear jinbaori, a sleeveless jacket, with their armor sets. Samurai would also wear a manto (cloak) with their armor set as well, which was influenced by the European traders.

Iron Mountain Armory offers options to design your own custom yoroi haori samurai armor kimono for both the Sengoku and Edo era. The Sengoku Samurai Armor Jacket is made from basic hemp linen which has a slightly stiff, rough feel. The Edo Samurai Armor Jacket is made from fine cotton giving a soft, smooth feel or a fine wool.  Like the rest of our samurai clothing line we make, each yoroi haori as traditional as possible with focus on quality over quantity. Each yoroi jacket is sewn with quality stitching and handwork with the most traditional materials available. We are honored to make you a fully customized, unique haori worthy of any modern samurai warrior, re-enactor, dedicated cosplay or LARP.  Please select from our many options. If you have any questions, please contact us before placing your order, so we may walk you through the process or explain any options. Our samurai clothing and accessories are featured in many movies, tv series, documentaries, including the docudrama “Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan” by Netflix & the Smithsonian Channel.
