Byo no Kogai Kanamono – Gashira are our mid-range quality brass decorative fittings used on the sode (shoulder guards). The byo (rivet) attaches the decorative brass bar to the sode and holds the ring in place, towards the back of your sode. The mizu-nomi no o (rope or cord) is passed through the mizunomi-no-kan (ring) and ties to the Agemaki no Kan (ring with decorative bow) on the backside of the Do (cuirass). The Kogai Kanamono is not only decorative, but functional and is an important part on the armor. The long ornate plates were designed to displace the force of the sane-ita (armor plat) and reducing the force of the cords pulling on the mizunomi-no-kan. The rings hold the mizu-nomi no o (rope or cord) which tie to the back or along the back of the armor to keep the sode from sliding forward during combat.
This set can be added to any sode, antique or reproduction, using your hands or simple tools. Simply place the Kogai (ring) Kanamono (bar) in place over the sode and slide the byo (rivets) through the existing odoshi (lace) holes. Then secure in place by flattening the rivet stem behind the sane-ita.
Please Note: Sold as a set, to be used on one sode. If you would like to add a set to both sode, you will need to purchase 2 sets.
