Kiba Gundan (騎馬軍団 Cavalry) is a ni-mai tosei yoroi (2 section modern samurai armor set) crafted in honor of the famed Takeda Shingen (1521 – 1573). Toward the mid 16th century, larger infantry and foot archers were becoming more common with mounted samurai being primarily archers. Shingen armored his mounted samurai with yari (spears) to break through enemy lines and chase down enemy archers. This new tactic proved to be very successful at the battle of Mikatagahara, earning the Takeda Clan the name Kiba Gundan (騎馬軍団), ‘mounted army’ or as we know it today as “cavalry”.
The Kiba Gunban ni-mai tosei yoroi is of course crafted with the colors and personality of the Takeda Clan’s cavalry, however the colors, clan mon and other options can be adjusted to make your Kiba Gunban samurai armor set more personal to you. The ni-mai do (2 section cuirass) is a common request as it makes the do (cuirass) more comfortable while riding and more adjustable for different sized chests. This particular samurai gusoku (matching armor set) is shown with the pre-selected optional mayu (simulated eyebrows), miage shiwa (simulated facial wrinkles), suemon (mon on the fukigaeshi) of the zunari kabuto and tekko no suemon (mon on the back of hand). You can select from other styles of kabuto and chose to remove some pre-selected options, like the mayu and/or miage shiwa (simulated facial wrinkles). Our skilled katchû-shi (Japanese armor smith) at Iron Mountain Armory, will craft your Gashira class yoroi with the options of your choice to make your samurai armor set, completely custom to you or your clan.
Please Note: All options are pre-selected to create the suit as seen in the product pictures with many of the options changeable. If you have any questions about the options click/tap the ? next to the option title for more information or see our Order Options Explained page for more details.
